The team were originally called ‘Tail O the Bank’ and taught by Cath Douglas and Chris Caldwell. The Social Work Department introduced this activity to provide therapy, and recreation to wheelchair users who lived in and around Greenock. The team changed its name to the ‘Inverclyders’ when the Social Work Dept. dropped this activity from its curriculum. At that time the team members continued to dance by themselves until they asked Cath to return. She did so, on a voluntary capacity.
All current team members live within the community within the Inverclyde area, and independently get themselves to our weekly practices. Those practices are held most Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm in Port Glasgow Town Hall. (Please note: due to work being carried out in Port Glasgow Town Hall during April and May 2009 we will be making alternative arrangements for practice. If interested please contact any of the above for details.)
The ‘Inverclyders’ currently hold several trophies from the 2007 Scottish Regional Festival. We are now preparing new dances for the next Scottish Regional Festival to be held in Glasgow Thistle Hotel on Sunday 8th November 2009. The Scottish festivals are run every bio year with the British Championship Festivals on alternate years. We have several Flag Day fundraising events organised, and any proceeds will help in our entry to this festival.
We are always looking for new dancers for our team, and for volunteers to help us with props, fundraising and general duties required to get us prepared for the competitions. If you are interested please do not hesitate to contact any of the names above. Your help will be much appreciated.
